Arts in Parks

Are you able to see a sippy cup hanging on the rim of the garbage can? Someone must have thought this garbage can was a great place to use for hanging kiddie cups. For all I know, it could have been a woman who had hung the cup there, but I have reasons to believe it is more likely an act of a man. And for the record, I am not a man hater, but love them the same way they love women. My main subject was the garbage can art, and didn't notice the sippy cup until I started this post.

You see, I have started walking around with a camera in my hand as if it's a part of my body, like a fixture to a house. So while I was aiming for the perfect shot, it didn't take long for my blog post to start getting more juice. Mr. Wonderful showed up in his boots and started a conversation "Beautiful day…are you a part of this party too?....What do you like about these garbage cans? ... Hey, what are you really doing?” I was terribly distracted by the john deere boots he had on, they had a very unique design. I wanted to ask him if he blog to introduce him to my blog where he might be featured, but our conversation was cut short because Miss Trinity needed rescuing from being overly brave on the play structure. Now, he would just have to be lucky to run into this post one day.

I guess everyone was right-on, once you’re a blogger, you can't go anywhere, see anything without once thinking about a picture, a story, or how to incorporate your conversations into a blog post. The blinking light bulb goes off every now and then when something sparks. Like many photographers, I was perfectly happy to discover the additional subject, as it makes more of a story for my post. Argh...there I go again, but you know what, I am only thinking of your reading pleasure.

My reason to have taken these photographs is the admiration I have for our community's efforts for bringing arts, creativity, and color into something we wouldn't normally have looked twice at. And I was very happy to see a group of volunteers working on beautifying the garbage cans in our own neighborhood park last weekend! Garbage Can Arts in Parks!

  2. I bet a man did that. Or, maybe someone who doesn't have kids found it laying around in the park and thought the garbage can would be a great place to put it. I think we have that same exact sippy cup. Funny!

Thanks for stopping by the Healthy Moms!

  4. Garbage can art is fascinating. I have seen some unusual mail boxes too, but I am always on a main road with no parking; plus can you imagine the owner coming out and seeing me take a picture of their mail box? Being a blogger is fun, but not without it's hazards. :-)

  5. Have to admit "Garbage Can Art" is a new medium of expression for me. Interesting way to express oneself, while brightening someone else's day as they saunter past ;-)

  6. @PamI believe so, it's a pretty nice and cheap way to spruce up the park, plus making it obvious so that people will use the garbage can instead of littering.

  7. @Icy BCI find it simple yet so overlooked. I mean, why didn't I think of that? :-)

  9. HI Amanda!!

I love that art can be displayed anywhere and appreciated even when one is strolling throgh the parks!! :)

I noticed you have a funky comment section now and we are able to reply to comments in a way Bloggers only dream of...is this because you have you own domain name or can us mere mortals get a piece if that action?! :)

  10. We have a lot of that around here, but not on garbage cans. They paint the utility boxes around town and they are so much prettier to look at. This a great idea. I am with you, I never leave home without my digital.

  12. Getting a camera did change the way I view the world and the way I blog. I am much more into details than I ever was before and I have a much better way to share my love of nature.

These garbage cans are great. What park were they in, who was decorating them, and was there a special event?

Oh, and I hope whoever left the sippy cup there wasn't planning on actually handing it back to the kid to drink from. Shudder. It definitely needs disinfecting!

  18. I like the decorated garbage can, it's such an unexpected place to find art. Also an unusual place to see a sippy cup, maybe a child balanced it there. :)
