There are three or four huge white birds of paradise in front of my garage. They were bought and planted six years ago. They are probably in the best spot possible, because they thrive and thrive. My gardener even split these guys a couple of times already and still they continued to produce beautiful large Bird of Paradise flowers and huge green leaves.
It is hard to capture the full view because the flower spreads like a 90degree angle. It doesn't require a lot of water but more shade, as without shade the leaves turn brown. As for the flower, it seemed to come twice a year, once in July and again in December. It all really depends on the weather we have in CA. This year we hardly had any rain, yet already into spring.
