It has only been recently that I have started to spend a little more time fixing the broken things around the house. Our stairway railings are in need of a little TLC. The previous owners varnished all the wood in the house, which I am sure made the house look good and inviting at the time. But, the varnish became deadly years after. It has turned yellow, and because there are a lot of wood, it looks as if we had plastered mustard all over our house. Mustard is okay if that is your taste. It’s not mine.
Currently it has to be the biggest eyesore, the yellow varnished wood stairway railings have bubbled over time, became harden and starting to flake-off. This is a heavy traffic area, one of those places our family go through a lot throughout the day. Up and down the stairs. I get so many views of it to the point that I became anxious to do something with these stairway railings. So naturally, this project made it to the hot list. SO is drawn to the wrought iron stairways for the ease of maintenance and the sturdiness look. I used to oppose to it when Trinity was much younger, because I thought she could get hurt on the wrought iron railing parts, but now that there are many styles and colors available, I just might be converted in time when we are ready to change our own stairway railings.
I have tons of ideas but not enough time to carry them out. Lately, I am happy that it has been about getting our house in shape. It’s been many years that we live on the run. Meaning, we do what has to be done with the time that we have. Priorities took place, so fixing something that is broken, but didn’t hurt wasn’t priority. Then, what you say were my priorities? Taking care of people, kids, mom, feed them, and make sure they are okay physically and mentally.

Hey Amanda - I love the wrought iron railings too! They were a bit out of our price range so I've spent the last few weeks painting and painting and painting and painting again our disgusting builder oak ballusters and railings. All 63 of them multiple times. But the effort is paying off!!

Glad you have a little more time to do the fixing around the house! It's not easy trying to fit everything on one plate..
ReplyDeleteYea, Mustard is not my taste at all, color or product.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a way to curve our stairs. That way I wouldn't worry the kids will come tumbling down and break necks.
Good luck with your decision!
