You've been dreaming of a new kitchen for years, and you're finally ready to start the remodeling process. But before you rip out the cabinets and purchase new flooring, it's important to first design your new space. Whether you design your kitchen yourself or work with a professional service, you'll want to make sure all the features of your kitchen work well together to create an exceptional finished product.
Brainstorm
When you're first starting the design process, don't be afraid to brainstorm and come up with a vast wish list. Ask the other members of your family for their input. You'll likely have to pare down your list due to budget concerns, but it's helpful to realize what's important to each person when you're designing your kitchen.
Consider Your Needs
Unless you're dealing with a limited budget, you'll have to decide how to best spend your hard-earned dollars. If it's too difficult to narrow down your options, consider what you do most often in your kitchen. If your kids love having all of their friends over for dinner, a larger dining area is helpful. If you enjoy cooking big meals for your extended family once a month, double
wall ovens will help you prepare multiple items at one time. Think about what currently works in your space, and what needs improvement.
Consider Your Emotions
When you're making design choices, it's also helpful to think about how you want to feel in your kitchen. Do you want your kitchen to be a lively, energetic and welcoming space for casual dining with family and friends? Are you trying to create a luxurious space that makes your family feel pampered? Once you determine how you want your kitchen to feel, it will be easier to choose things like paint colors and decorative tiles. If you start to feel overwhelmed by all the different options, don't be afraid to ask for help. Working with a professional kitchen designer will allow you to get another point of view regarding your design, and it's very beneficial to work with someone who has plenty of experience in designing kitchens.

I am still dreaming of that kitchen, even though I am closer - we haven't begun.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so wonderful. Maybe… someday.
ReplyDeleteYes, some day-but I guess it could be one of these days.
DeleteThat kitchen looks comfortable and I like its color. We cook Japanese food,,Chinese,French,Italian, and another......So I want large space to store seasonings, kitchen tools of each cooking and so on.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
Cooks like a nice large kitchen, it is the heart of a home.
DeleteThank you for sharing. I've been eyeing up some ideas for my kitchen remodel, but my husband isn't too keen on the idea so we're weighing more options and ideas around. We of course have to go with something we both want, so it's quite hard, but this article is helping me figure some things out, so thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, I have been trying to update my kitchen for years, on a budget so things are moving very slow.
DeleteThe best thing to do is brainstorm, because if you're married like I am, you're going to want to find what works for both people. It's not easy doing a remodel, but it's a fun process that I've had fun with many times. Needs come down to it more than ever though, and the more done, the better.
ReplyDeleteYes. SO and I do a lot of brainstorming too. It's quite a difficult process. I am learning that SO and I are both slow decision makers when it comes to such an important change.
DeleteI'm planning on remodeling my kitchen very soon as it's really outdated and not really ideal at this point and time. I already told my husband it's my choice mostly because I do the cooking, and I am in the kitchen most of the time. Planning is a lot easier when one person is in control. I'm mainly going for looks and of course needs. A nice amount of cupboard space and a nice new look will spice my kitchen up big time. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI have my lovely kitchen, the thought of doing it again fills me with horror as it was a total nightmare but like childbirth every time I go in there I forget the horror

Remodeling anything in the home is a group affair. My wife would never let me go with my own style and I would never let her go with her own style. Anyways, I am really interested in trying to remodel our kitchen, just not sure what we will go with this time around. We need a new stove and a fridge, that's a must, at least for me. My wife wants new cabinets and a new island table as well so we can have more storage. I'm really excited to get this project going.
