Floors locks are an excellent tool for furniture items that roll on casters every day. Some units can be stopped with the break or pushed against a wall. However, there are units that must be rolled into
floor locks for everyone's safety. Installing the locks is a process in and of itself. Installing the casters that match these locks is another matter. The owner of the furniture must follow both steps carefully to make sure their locks are truly secure.
The Casters
Casters that are sold with locks for the floor are matched when they are purchased. The casters should be removed from the locks and attached to the furniture first. These items cannot work unless each caster is flush with the bottom of the furniture unit. When the unit rolls into the lock, it cannot lock into place if it is wobbling.
Turning the furniture over to install the casters correctly ensures that they will not be uneven when the unit is turned back over. Also, the wheels are no ready to test on the locks.
The Locks
Installing these locks requires a precise measurement of the furniture. The furniture units must be measured to make sure the wheels are a certain distance apart. The floor must be marked with these distances so the locks can be installed properly.
Make sure the locks are facing the right direction, and screw or nail each lock into the floor. The lock should be adjusted minutely as it is being installed, and the lock will be perfectly square upon completion of the installation.
Testing The Locks
The furniture unit must be wheeled into the locks to make sure that they fit properly. When the locks and casters match each other correctly, the owner of the furniture can move on to a new installation. A small test may reveal that the locks need to be moved, and the installation can be adjusted before it is too difficult to undo.
When people want to make their rolling furniture as safe as possible, they must use rolling casters and locks for the floor. These rolling units can be pushed into locks that will prevent the furniture from going anywhere.

That's a good thing to have to keep safe but sounds a bit complicated to install correctly.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't hurt to take precautions. I have some chairs that rolls around on the kitchen floor because of the wheels - these locks would be perfect!
DeleteI didn't even know this was even a thing for furniture, but then again, I suppose we learn something new every day. Anyways, thank you for sharing, I know I could use these for some of my furniture to keep it from moving so much.
ReplyDeleteYes. They are great, especially if you live with someone who likes to change furniture around!
DeleteI have a few of these for my rolling chairs in my house, they work really well at locking a chair in place so it doesn't roll. I've had nothing but luck with them and am very happy with them overall, but I could use more. Anyways, it's nice to see devices like these being made.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple already too, but no locks. I will have to try the ones with locks. I like these furniture rolls because it's great for when we have company over, we can move the chairs and lock them in place.
DeleteI'm happy to see something like this for furniture that can be easily moved. I know for one I have a fair share of furniture that needs to be kept in place. I have kids who are all over the place, so I'd rather they're safer than sorry. Anyways, I hope these are easy to install, because from the sounds of it, they seem to be quite hard to get installed.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's true about kids. Keep them grounded to one place! I have trouble with keeping my girl in her chair...I wish there is a kids lock for that. :#
DeleteI never knew such devices were made, but then again it kind of makes perfect sense to have a device like this. I suppose I could use some of these, I have a bed that is on wheels and it moves fairly easily, and having these to make it stop would make life so much easier. Anyways, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteA rolling bed could be fun...but then again, you might get sea sick after a while. Do get some floor locks!
