I've always heard that red roses stand for love, and yellow for friendship, but that was the extent of knowledge I had regarding rose colors and what it signifies. Recently, I came across some quick definitions of what the colors and stages of blooms meant from a garden magazine. It is something to ponder about.
What Does Each Rose Blooming Stages Mean?
- A red rose bud stands for budding desire
- An open white rose asks, "Will you love me?"
- An open red rose means, "I'm full of love and desire,"
- An open yellow rose asks, "Don't you love me anymore?"
Roses Versus other Flowers - What Do Roses Stand For?
You should also know that roses signifies romance, even in B.C. times! Many royalties used roses to express love and or bring-on romance for a example, Cleopatra celebrated the rose as an aphrodisiac. Her bed was covered with fresh roses "daily". In 42 B.C. She had the floor carpeted with two feet of rose petals for a banquet held in honor of her lover, Mark Anthony.
Want to do something special for me my love? How about two feet of rose petal carpet in our backyard?

ReplyDeletewow, never paid enough attention to the changes in colors of roses before, this is very interesting, and you captured the light pink and yellow color in one rose, amazing. love it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting theories. I was told that if you're giving roses and they don't bloom, then the love is not true. I actually believed this and told the florist the flowers they sent to me did not open, they sent another bunch of roses and some did open up. :))
