Is 4G Internet Worth Getting?

Written by my guest blogger, Danny Smith.

I remember when I first started surfing the web in the early 90's. I had a 28.k modem and I bought a 56k as soon as the opportunity presented itself. I was FLOORED by how fast it was! Absolutely thrilled that it only took 30 seconds for a web page to load, lol. I was thinking back on this yesterday after I had my new 4G wireless connection hooked up. I've been using Clear Internet in Las Vegas and I'm really amazed at how fast this connection is. I loved 3G when it first came out, but the bandwidth wasn't so great for downloading large files and even large text-based web pages.

I am a huge MySpace freak and always had a problem with slow loading when I was using 3g. This may not be a big deal for people who just get on to check messages and comments, but I am a hardcore user who has to have 3 or 4 IM windows up while reading bulletins and posting comments. The 4G doesn't give me any problems at all when it comes to things like that, which is great. I was driving around with a friend and we got a great signal everywhere we went. His CD player was stolen out of his car a couple of weeks ago and we have been using my laptop for "Tunes on Demand", lol. It's actually much more convenient than using a CD if you aren't the one driving.

Just think of a song, type it in YouTube and, bam, there it is. The connection is just as fast as the DSL connection my roommate has at the house. Before I clock into work I'll set everything up so my CPU is downloading any TV Shows/Movies I want to watch and it's always finished by the time my shift is over. I would have never thought speeds like this were possible back when I was still using dial-up, especially wireless connections on a lap top. These wireless companies just keep putting out better stuff all the time. I wonder how much faster Internet connections like this can actually go.

  1. Thank you Danny for your insight on the 4G internet. With what I do, sometimes I have more than 4 windows up. I wish my internet would step up, and I can't wait to try 4G!

  3. I remember when I used to have dial up and switched to wireless, but I really don't understand 3G or 4G. I just know I hate wasting time trying to get where I want to go. :-)

  4. I remember the dial up days and the 28k modems, it seemed so fast back then. Now I am always ready to try the fastest connection possible. Good article.

  5. I'd like to know if you would be available to participate in a 4G research project that I'm conducting as part of a class project. It would consist of a short phone interview about your opinions on 4G internet as it relates to your lifestyle and why it may or may not be a useful technology. Please let me know if you would participate. Thanks!
