One of my favorite desserts is this Flavored Agar Dessert Layered with Coffee. It was once easy to run to the sandwich shop and grab some at anytime, but I have limited myself to long drives and "just because I crave" for something for quite sometime now. That meant I needed to be more creative and try to make my favorite food on my own as much as possible.
I used to be in a hurry and poured the next layer way too soon, thereby messing up the Agar mix. But like a broken record, I will say it again, a few good things come with age – patience and foresight.
Ingredients: 2 pkg agar agar, 2 1/3 Cs sugar, 7 Cs cold water, 1 Tbs flavored green food color, 1 Tbs condense milk, 1 Tbs instant coffee
Process: In a sauce pan, dissolve the agar agar in water, stirring constantly, then turn stove to high and bring mixture to a boil. Once boiling, immediately lower to medium heat. Keep stirring.
Divide the mixture into 3 bowls. Add the green flavored food color in one bowl, condense milk in the second, and the coffee in the third. Stir until the color is even.
Pour a layer of coffee in first since it is going to be at the bottom. (Do which ever flavor you want first – create your own masterpiece). Once the first layer is completely firm, pour in the second layer/ condense milk, and then the green flavored mixture. Separate the Jello from the mold and place the Jello on a serving plate. It's delicately flavored so serve it with cappuccino or your favorite coffee.
