- Does this wildflower look pretty to you?
- Can you see the beauty in everything that you come across?
- Have you seen ugliness and can you admit it was ugly?
- Do you feel bad about thinking something is ugly because it is god's creation or even when it wasn't?
Don't judge too hastily
Can you believe this is a macro shot of a wildflower or maybe even weed in my yard? Trinity found it and brought it to me. She thought it was very pretty. The flower was close to being thrown to the ground because at first glance I thought it was ugly until I started feeling bad. I felt bad because here my four-year-old daughter brought it to me with excitement. She wanted to share something she'd found that was unique among all that green grass. How could I shatter the innocence of a little child? I really was just trying to protect her from foreign things. Many people would say there isn't an ugly flower. Well, I have seen some ugly flowers, but it was probably stomped on or wilted and dried out. Again, I can still hear the booing, regarding how all dried out flowers can be beautiful too. I admit I have seen some dried flowers that were quite interesting.
So is there anything that is ugly to you? Ugly woman? No way. I would get shot for saying this as I have not met a woman who doesn't think she is beautiful. So who is ugly? Or what is ugly? Can you see ugliness at all?
Ugly is not just the way someone or something looks
I have seen a few ugly people. Like myself for instance, when I recall doing something that I thought was not so nice or an act that doesn't reflect myself when I am half way sane. I was really ugly, and boy, it sure took a while for me to forget and forgive that ugly person I saw. So it is safe for me to say those were the only times when I saw ugliness. Thanks for stopping by today.

Everything through a camera lense is beautiful. Maybe you should turn yourself over and have someone photograph you.. think you too will see the self-beauty!
ReplyDeleteTruly enjoyed your writing ...
Under macro, I am afraid to crack the lenses. Fantastic respond, thanks!
Deletex-)
Everything and everyone has something that is beautiful, even if the first impression is one of ugliness.
ReplyDeleteSometimes its hard to look further than the initial impression though. For the record I thought the pic of the wildflower was attractive :-)
You're right, the initial reaction, could be affected by one's mood. If you're in a rush, having a bad day, things are much different to you.
DeleteThanks for the perspective.
preach it! and soooo very true! i've been ugly myself, but can see the beauty in 'most' things and situations!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I am also an optimistic person, and love almost everything. It is hard for me to complain, unless it just is absolutely unbearable.
DeleteI think it's a clover flower since I can't enlarge it, and I thought it's very pretty. Sometimes, we just have to see things through a child's eyes!
ReplyDeleteSince she learned about flowers, she has loved every single one. Through her eyes, I am beautiful too, isn't that great? :-)
Deletenice post and so thought-provoking!
ReplyDeleteso true.
couldn't agree more.
there is not a one that has not been ugly i think...but they can see the beauty in most thing.
those flower photos are really beautiful! i really enjoyed my visit here.
happy weekend!
betty
That's what so great about the macros, they will show the details that the naked eyes can't.
DeleteI can add nothing to your share & the comments except .. yup & Amen!
ReplyDeleteHappy PS weekend ~

Amen is good. I say Amen and Alleluia a lot. Thanks for the visit.
Deletelovely! i simply love all kinds of flowers!
ReplyDeleteI do too...they are amazing with so many varieties.
DeleteVery beautiful! Weed, flower or whatever, somethings are just simply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes - somethings are just simply beautiful. They are so intricately made that it's incredible how the details could have been thought of in the first place.
DeleteBeauty is in the eye of the beholder - you have a good eye! Happy PS.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful. And, I think you hit the nail on the head, so to speak when saying that ugliness is not about appearance but what we are inside. We can be the most beautiful person on the outside and be completely mean on the inside. However flowers to me are all beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteThe bloom of the clover is very beautiful to me, I was doing macro shots of one just a few days ago. I love your macros Amanda.
ReplyDeleteI do my best to find beauty in everything (although I found a bug the other day that was just plain ugly) and everyone. As you said, ugliness comes from within. Amanda, I can't imagine you as ever being ugly.
as photographers we are blessed with eyes that see. glad I stopped by macro monday and saw your post!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and lovely wildflower.
ReplyDeletewhat a very reflective post, i see beauty in your shots, and yes, sometimes we have to take a deeper look to see beauty since the surface may not be attractive for us.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't look ugly to me. Everyone sees beauty, ugly in their own way based on their influences.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes there are times when I've said something was ugly and feel conscious about it because I know it's God's design.
Beautiful post.
I love this post!
ReplyDeleteI have no problem admitting if things are ugly. Doesn't mean it is, just means I think it is :)
COley
"maybe you should turn yourself over"..(that was funny)
ReplyDeleteI know this was another meme but you linked it so I thought I'd say something. You raised a lot of good points. I think there is a guilt thing with ugliness because it seems no matter what, we are comparing on a level or picking something or someone apart! I've wondered the same. I took a lady customer of my husband's home..she was going on about a relationship, and then turns to me an says "you know, I'm beautiful"!!
I make an effort to look decent and try not to wear something that wouldn't draw attention to anything unsightly..but she was NOT what I'd consider beautiful and was obvious she didn't share the same idea? Whatever..at least she had confidence! (ha ha)
I've enjoyed making dried flowers and think maybe there is more beauty in certain stages. Ya, there are ugly flowers!
Anyhow, your captures are pretty-
Regina, that is totally hilarious. Thank you for making a joke...I love to laugh and I love humor. I love that you can turn this subject and say hey, let's take a different angle and we'll see where we end up. I am glad you can be honest. Honesty is the best policy and will always be.
DeleteI guess we set the standards a bit too high when it comes to evaluating our selves..no? ;)
ReplyDeleteI know I do. I am hard on myself and usually expects only the best in whatever it is. But that doesn't mean that I can always do the best in everything, so I learn from those times that I fall short of delivering the best.
DeleteClover is very pretty and useful too.
ReplyDeleteI need to read about the clovers and their uses. Thanks for provoking the idea. :-)
DeleteFor me, ugly or beautiful pertains to what is inside. I love all flowers and to me most are beautiful. This flower i think is beautiful in it's imperfection. Yes I have seen ugly in people but only when that ugliness is displayed by way of their heart. Great post, Amanda.
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts Jo. I agree with everything you say. And to the point of the imperfections, like flowers people have their imperfections too. Glad you stopped by.
DeleteAgreed. And I will never doubt it again. As these are so very stunning.
