I recently gave in to "more" Social Media chores and decided to add a Facebook LIKE button to each of my blog posts. You would think that having a Facebook "share" button is enough. Yes, because I already have one. But quite honestly it hasn't been used much that I know of. Statistically, more people are likely to click the "Facebook Like" button than the "Share" button. Even though the "Facebook Like" button could essentially work the same way as the "share" button. Your contacts will be able to see your "Facebook Like" activities, if your account is set-up that way.
Long story short, I tried a couple of codes already, but my template is temperamental. Those codes conflict with other codes I used for my tweaks and widgets. So I took them down and decided to use the simplest way. I mean it is so simple guys that you almost think it wouldn't work! But here are the steps that I took, and you can try it for your blogs too. It works perfectly on mine!
Get the Facebook LIKE Button Code
Step 1 Go to Facebook developers
Step 2 Enter your blog's url in the widget
Step 3 Select your choice of style for the Facebook Like button.
Step 4 Click get code and copy it to your clipboard or notepad - somewhere that is handy to get when you need it.
Enter the Facebook LIKE Button Code to Your Blog
Step 5 Sign in to your Blogger account.
Step 6 Click Settings, Posts and Comments. .
Step 7 Paste: Code from Facebook
Step 8 Save settings and you're done!
Now, every time you write a new post, the codes are already in there and the Facebook Like will appear once you click publish. Best thing is the versatility, if it is something you don't want to promote you can choose to delete the code.

I recently did a makeover for the blog.
ReplyDeletechanged the header and color scheme.
It looks really nice. You are so busy wit your blog, such a committed blogger!
DeleteAmanda, my last tweak was adding yahoo ads. Since I have had so many family and work related issues lately I haven't had time to see if they are doing well, but then how can they if I am not active?
ReplyDeleteThe previous one I tried was page break and I spent countless hours working on it to no avail so had to go back and remove all the "read mores". Hope your Mother's day was special.
Yes, my mother's day was exactly as I had hoped it to be. I don't have any ads on my site, I think for the amount of $ it generates, it is more bothersome to me.
DeleteHaha..you're right, I had the "Like" and "Share" buttons on my blogs for at least 2 years now. Truth to be told, they don't make any different in traffic. They are just there for look!
ReplyDeleteThe latest thing I tweak was the hove-over Pininterest button for photos..It works and I keep it :-) not that it makes any different in traffic either. It's just an option!
Yes, I see you have shares and likes both.
DeleteGreat information! Thank you for sharing and for the link-up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining and linking this week, hope to see you again next week.
DeleteI think the latest was changing the social media icons. I have been wanting to to a whole makeover, but haven't found the time to invest in it yet.
ReplyDeleteChanging and remodeling anything takes so much time and effort. You will get to it soon, I am sure of it. :-)
DeleteHi Amanda ~~ I hope our tweaking works for you. It is nice to hear about successes Blogs should be as easy as we can get to be them for our readers sake. My BIL reminded me that a 'cute' little clock that I had put on would frustrate readers with 'dial-up' still for their internet (it's free) because it takes so long for a page to come. I GIVE UP EASILY IF A PAGE DOESN'T OPEN QUICKLY. Most times it is all the cute little 'apps' opening that takes the time. The more you have the cuter it gets but the more time it takes to open.
ReplyDeleteI hate the 'hover over' apps. They don't go away when you take your courser off. When I hit one I generally do a fast link to another site. FaceBook is the worst offender. I have FaceBook but don't spend much time with it.
1. Latest tweak: I use "NetworkedBlogs" to auto-post to FaceBook my blog tittle and intro to FaceBook for every post. It generates a few reads from my friends who probably would not otherwise be reading my blog.
2. I keep 'Old Blogger" and have not updated. That keeps me from having the "read more" or the like button on the bottom. I laso have not updated my Reader List for a long time. Many are on FaceBook only now and have stopped updating their blogs.
..
Yes. You brought up a very good point Jim. Although all the widgets are cute and lovely, they slow down the page load. That is one of my pet peeves too. It drives me up the wall when I go to a page that takes forever to load. I like being able to integrated my posts to FB too. With all these social media channels, who has the time to babysit each one? How in the world were you able to keep the old Blogger interface? I like the old dashboard but HAD to update. I didn't have a choice.
DeleteI don't care much for Facebook, but I have the "Like" and "Share" button on my blog, just to keep me in the loop!
ReplyDeleteCrazy, lots of work for all these little gimmicks. I see that the Pinterest has worked well for some of my posts. It's the one that generate the most traffic besides Google.
DeleteI think I already have this one and that's where I put them too.
ReplyDeleteThe last one I tried was a Post thing but it wouldn't work right, so I deleted it and send info to the developers. We'll see what they say.
Happy Weekend Amanda :)
Yes you do, and I like your app. It's floating. I am not sure about that for my blog, as I like the heart shaped icons, and the floating app does not offer heart shape icons. :-)
DeleteLatest tweak! I just started a fan page for my blog on fb! Yes, I am late but I finally did it just 2 days ago.
ReplyDeleteIt is so convenient to have the blog post automatically send to FB! I like the feature a lot too.
DeleteI keep trying and trying to get into Facebook, but it just never feels right to me!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you figured it out, though!
I believe we all can use an assistant. I just think all the social media tools are time consuming and a lot of work.
DeleteStill having trouble getting that like button in but thanks for the help on your post now following from crafty spicy social blog hop I'm lorraine at http://lorrainesresources.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI hope you keep trying. It could be something in your blogpost code in the template that is preventing you from seeing the FB icon. But it really shouldn't, since the code should be pasted directly on your settings for each blog post- think of it like a hand signature or an image. You should be able to see the code in html and the icon in compose mode, if you put the right codes in. Try to just place the code in the blog post when you pull up a new post to blog.
DeleteGood to know! I do not currently have a blog, but I used to. Maybe I'll start it up again. Great post, very informative and helpful. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.
ReplyDeleteI was successful adding the "like" button but all of my posted photographs disappeared. How come ?
