Mini blinds are very versatile window treatments. They come in a variety of materials and practically any color you can imagine. They can make a house look and feel uniform and organized. That's a plus for those who are not into house decorating.
Below are some different types of mini blinds and their use. I've used aluminum blinds before because they were the least expensive with to custom order, but I am much happier with the premium vinyl blinds I now have. See my reasons below.
Aluminum blinds: if the area is going to be high traffic, you will need blinds that are tough and resilient. There are aluminum blinds that comes with DustShield, they repel dust from collecting on your blinds. Also do yourselves a favor and look for aluminum blinds that come with spring tempered, they can resist kinking. Keep this in mind should you have people in your household who isn't particularly delicate with their hands. One of the things you might need to consider with aluminum blinds is that they tend to rust in high humidity environments, specifically, the kitchen. It not only will will rust there, but will also collect a lot of grease. The plus side is, it is still pretty easy to clean with soap and water.
Vinyl blinds: Are great for area with a lot of humidity. Vinyl is easy to clean even if it gets build up from dirt and dust. It is also lightweight, great for bathroom windows where it is too high to reach. The premium vinyl blinds can be very aesthetically pleasing and look like wood blinds. Vinyl blinds also provides great protection and shield from the sun and cool air.
What is your experience with mini blinds? Which is your favorite?

I never knew that there are so many kinds. We do like the white wood blinds that we have throughout our house.
ReplyDeleteActually there are a lot more styles, but they are not as popular. I love the white shutter types too. ;)
DeleteI'd like to have wood blinds rather than the drapes we have in our library!
ReplyDeleteI am not so keen on drapes, because different smells get trapped in the material. Blinds are better for sanitary reasons.
DeleteI think the only curtains we have are in our bedrooms. The rest of the house is full of blinds. I would recommend heavy duty wood or heavy duty plastic blinds if you have dogs that like to look out the windows. Mine have torn through so many, we finally bought heavy duty plastic, then double stacked them to keep the dogs from cracking them.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point, I think pets can be more destructive than kids - like you said, dogs chew on things like mini blinds.
Deletemy favorite is the vertical blind, however, i kind of like the idea of blinds these days that performs like a window too
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I like the flexibility and the functions and it takes me forever to make up my mind.
DeleteI love having mini blinds but would love to upgrade to the wooden blinds eventually.
ReplyDeleteWe have blinds throughout our house. It is a much neater look if you are not into drapes and curtains.
DeleteMy favorite is the wood shutters, they are easy to clean and so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWood shutters are classy, and adds value to your home overall.
DeleteWe have blinds, but only the cheap ones :-)! My favorites are the wood ones though. Who knows maybe someday... Thanks for sharing. We are so blessed to have so many choices available to pick from!
ReplyDeleteIt is true that there are so many kinds to choose from, there are all kinds of personalities too. I use the cheap ones on the rentals and when I just need a quick cover up.
DeleteMy blinds are horrific right now. I used to have cloth blinds that I loved, and I’m thinking of getting more of them. I like the wooden blinds too - I didn’t think about them being great for temperature control! :-s
